Pride Day

The London Ontario Gay Pride Day is coming up on July 27. That's one of the main reasons for buying the rings I did.

On the left is a 4 in 1 weave, 5 rings wide. Center is a 4 in 1 weave necklace with a matching pendant. Right is a series of box weave "beads". All are made with 1/4 inch square wire rings.

My wife has asked me to make her a chainmaille Pride bikini top. I don't think I have enough rings on hand to do that, as I'm hoping to sell a few bracelets. My question is: Should I use a 4 in 1 (maybe a 6 in 1) weave with round wire, OR maybe make one with scalemaille.

New Rings

Ordered some rings last week and they should be arriving by Tuesday!  They're square wire in 7 colours.  Also ordered some toggle clasps too.
Pics will be added when the rings arrive.

Hobby Business?

I've been interested in chainmaille for years. I've always loved the look of it and wondered how they made it so long ago.

Earlier this year I decided to jump into it. My son graduates from public school to secondary school and I wanted to give him something special, so I decided to make him a necklace. I contacted a ring supplier and ordered everything I would need.

This is the result:

It's a Byzantine weave, using black and red anodized aluminum rings, 18 gauge, 5/32". Total length is 18 inches.

I gave it to him early and he loves it. He asked for a matching bracelet. He wears both regularly.

I also ordered some stainless steel rings, more for the purpose of trying out some weaves with rings that don't break so easily.

At the top is a "necklace" in a box weave, center is 6 in 1 European weave, and at the bottom is a Byzantine weave. All are made with 16 gauge, 5/16" rings. These rings have a different aspect ration than the ones I used for my sons items. This makes the Byzantine "loose" in the stainless steel.

I've made a few other items as gifts for family members too

4 in 1 finger ring.

6 in 1 bracelet with Japanese 6 in 1 "flower".

Dragonscale bracelet.

Byzantine bracelet

4 in 1 earrings, no hooks.

I very much want to make a hauberk(chainmaille shirt), coif (headpiece) and do some inlay wall hangings.

I know there's not a HUGE market, but I'd love to make and sell stuff. It would have to be on a commission basis.

Byzantine and 6 in 1 bracelets would be $25.00.
Byzantine or 6 in 1  necklace would be $35.00
Add a "flower" for $5.00

Dragonscale bracelet $45.00.
Dragonscale necklace $65.00

For me to do a shirt, it would be between $230.00 and $375.00 depending on grade. Costume grade is going to be less expensive than combat grade. Add an inlay, add $50.00

Coifs will range from $75.00 to $105.00 depending on material.

Inlay hangings are not cheap.
Here's a generated example of what I mean:

Sideshow Bob.

Approximate dimensions 18" x 13" Cost: $300.00. Bigger will be more, smaller will be less. Somethings may not be possible. Why? Anodized rings come in limited colors. There's no skin tone for example. Two tone images can be done, but lose detail.
